Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height consisting of a gold vertical rectangle enclosed at top by an arced blue scroll inscribed "SERVICE THROUGH" and at bottom by a blue scroll inscribed "TEAM WORK" all in gold letters and having convexed sides bearing upon five red steps a stylized white chess knight and a stylized black chess knight back to back below a red pole star, all superimposed upon two stylized gold columns, one on either side.

Symbolism
Oriental blue is the primary color associated with military intelligence.  Black and white convey 24-hour military preparedness and indicates the dual nature of intelligence operations.  Gold signifies excellence and achievement; red is for valor and zeal.  The pole star suggests worldwide services provided by the Field Support Center.  The chess knights imply strategy and military preparedness while underscoring the Center's motto.  They are supported by five steps portraying the multi-faceted capabilities of the Center.  The columns symbolize support.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 2 March 1990.
